rm -rf /*

Ok ive got a partition [/dev/hdb6] i just converted to ext3 and i want to remove everything on this partition.

Its mounted as /backup and its basicly a mirror of / (but its old and useless now)

Whats the best way to go about this?

I was reading and i figured executing rm -rf /backup* as root would delete everything under /backup with no questions asked.

Then i read that it might actualy delete everything from / too and i really dont want to have to endure that.

please help me out and tell me the best way to entirely clean this partition and only this partition.

I'd simply just format that partition:

Code:
/sbin/mkfs -t ext3 /dev/hdb6
You may have to unmount it first.

Sweet, that worked out well.

Basicly my bottle crashed at the thought of executing rm -rf /backup * and watching EVERYTHING on my system vanish.

Thanks for your help extrasolar, much obliged.
