Replace windows XP with debian CD's


stuck in initial setup. Initial Steps required in WinXP to start. Debian disk 1 in drive bay but can't get it to appear on XP. John

Huh? Can you give more details.

What steps have you taken so far?

Is this straight Debian or a derivative.

If you are trying to run the Debian installer while you are in xp, that's your first mistake. You need to burn the disk as an image after verifying the download and reboot the computer with the Debian DVD in the drive and the DVD drive set to first boot priority in the BIOS.

Do you have a CD/DVD burning program? If you do, select write burn image to disc. DO NOT choose data. This will only write the iso file on the disc only.

You can also write the iso to a usb stick with
https://unetbootin.github.io/
