replace 'xfree86'
by 'xorg' in your xorg config file
Iupdated from Fed 1 to Fed 2; rebooted, Kudzu opened to configure my keyboard. know I always get this on boot-up:
Error activating XKB configuration.
Probably internal X server problem.
X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
60700000
If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/xkb
before reporting to bugzilla I checked and found 14 identical reports. All resolved by suggestion:
as it has been reported around 10 times for monolithic 'xorg', replace 'xfree86'
by 'xorg' in your xorg config file
How do I do this? Should I do this? It seems to be a keyboard problem, but my keyboard works fine

basically you should just need to reconfigure xorg to use the new packages. run xorgconfig to skip through it. also you will benefit from removing "XF86Config" and "XF86Config-4" from /etc/X11, as these are the XFree86 config files and can easily make things a lot more confusing. best to put them in your /home directory until you know it's all working fine.
as far keyboards go though, the driver name for X has changed from "keyboard" to "kbd". note that any keyboard issues are from within X, so won't be known to you if you can't even get into it. try changing that in /etc/X11/xorg.conf first before reconfiguring it competely.

I think that's only for X.org 6.8...I only had to change the keyboard driver when I recently upgraded from 6.7 to 6.8.2. Looks to me like he's on the former.
