Remote controlling a terminal

Hi I've got a question and I'm not sure where to start. I have a terminal open and running a server application (minecraft for those who care) I have openSSH installed and have no problem connecting my windows 7 laptop to the linux computer (via an SSH client called PUTTY) What I wonder is can I, using the windows laptop and SSHclient, access the terminal that is running the server? Can I SSH into the linux box and access an open terminal?

I want to send commands to the server application remotely; commands like start and stop. The software is Java based and I don't know if killing the Java process is a good idea but I bet it won't shutdown the server correctly!

Thanks!!

Have a look on using openSSH and screen tool. You could run minecraft server with screen and then attach the running session from anywhere to control the server.
