ReiserFS(ext3)

With the installation of redhat i chose a resiserfs ext3 FS. it worked fine, and from what i could see at boot, it loaded it as a module when booting. I have recompiled and upgraded several kernels (now running 2.4.13) with al the journal FS supported and loadable as modules, but when booting with mynew kernels it doesnt mount my / as ext3 reiserfs.what could be wrong?

Ummm, reiserfs and ext3 are different journing filesystems - you can't have a partition formatted as both.

Did you select both reiserfs and ext3 support in your kernel config?

i thought they were both the same, but I have support for both of them yes, as modules because that's how the original kernel mounted the ext3 FS.

try this

cat /proc/mounts

see what type your partitions are running on

if it says ext2 then you can convert to ext3

if it says ext3 you don't need to do anything

if it says reiserfs you don't need to do anything

to convert to reiserfs you will have to format the drive, and all data will be erased.
