Redhat Dedicated Server (Updating PHP Version - Will Pay!)

Hello,

We have recently purchased a dedicated server from fasthosts.co.uk which is running Redhat Enterprise 5.

The PHP version on the server is 5.1.6 and our software requires version 5.2.0 or newer.

I have tried everything to update this, but im not an expert and dont seem to be getting anywhere. I am familier with shell software, and can follow commands, but no-one seems to be able to give a complete step by step guide. I have checked probably every website going, but .rpm links our outdated, and i get error messages, etc etc.

Please if anyone can help with this i totally appreciate it, i cannot give access to our server but if someone can give me real instructions which work, i am quite willing to give a payment of $100 to anyone who can through paypal or however required. We have just spent close to $2,000 on the server and redhat software, so this is no problem.

With Regards,
Simon

The easiest way to update would be using yum.
So, do you have yum installed on the server?
if you do
Quote:
yum update php
should work.

Or you could always use the source to compile php.

what does
Quote:
rpm -qa | grep php
show

What have you tried upto now? what are the errors that you get paste the output.

Hi Again,

Ok thanks for that, i follwed the instructions, however now i get this:

[root@localhost ~]# yum update php
Loading "rhnplugin" plugin
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Existing lock /var/run/yum.pid: another copy is running. Aborting.

i rebooted the server, still says same after doing what was suggested on the site you sent.

grrr, should have stuck wit shared hosting!! lol

just hold on for a while, till yum stops searching for updates.
or do a ps -ef | grep yum
and kill -9 it.
