Unhappy RAID Driver Installation on Mandrake 9.0

When I install Mandrake 9.0, it goes past the first few steps until it gets to the part where it is partitioning, and it says that my disk are all corrupted. I figured out that this is because they are on a HPT372 RAID controller on mobo. I was told to download the new driver file, hpt3xx-opensource-v131.tgz. GREAT...now what to I do with it. I have a file sitting on my desktop. I'm clueless.

I'm a complete newbie to linux, so if somebody could please help me i'd really appreciate it. i've heard great things about linux, and i REALLY want to use it, but i can't. Something about creating two separate disks and installing some new kernel or something, but like i said i don't know anything.

If somebody could please respond without using any language an (ex)windows user might not understand, i thank you in advance.

im kinda new in this area too. but i learned a thing or 2 last night when i was getting help installing my video driver form a tar.gz file.

the first thing you have to do is log in as root. then i believe you type $ tar -xvzf (your full file name here)

and thats what i remember now. i am at school right now so i cant really give you any more info because im blocked from 90% of the sites on the net lol.

i will send you full instructions later. or you could goto the Gerneral topic area and it tells you how to install tar.gz files.

i hope that helped

Justin
