Raid 5 debian linux install

I'm fairly new to linux, and trying to install the latest debian distribution on a dell poweredge server. It was previously setup on raid 5. When it gets to the part of the install where it partitions the hard drive, it fails, saying cannot find hard drive.

DO i need to install linux on one of the hard drives and then do a raid configuration after the install? or how do i go about installing linux on a server with a raid controller and multiple drives?

There are instructions all over the net on installing on raid. I would take my time and read over them carefully.
