Unhappy Raid-0 Issue

Hi

I have a Ubuntu server that has a raided Raid-1 (mirrored) pair of 500gb disks in it for data storage. This morning the second disk (sdd) broke and left me with a single disk. After a server restart the remaining disk is present but the data on it is inaccessible. (its marked as inactive when inspected with mdadm).

Any anyone help me out? I would like to get the disk active again until I can get a replacement disk delivered to restore the mirror raid.

Many thanks for any help you can give

FR

Welcome to LQ

Guess you have a typo in your title; but have you tried starting the thing manually, something like

mdadm -assemble /mnt/md0 /dev/sdc1 missing

or maybe

mdadm /dev/md0 --add missing --fail /dev/sdd1 --remove /dev/sdd1

where /dev/md0 is your raid device, /dev/sdc1 is the remaining working partition and sdd1 is the broken partition on sdd. Your names might be different!

It might be safer if you post the output of
fdisk -l

and

mdadm -D /dev/md0

first.

Hi mostlyharmless

Yes, sorry, that was a typo - supposed to be Raid-1!

Running 'mdadm --assemble --scan' sorted it right out, went from being an inactive disk to a degraded raid set. After a re-mount the thing is working correctly

Many thanks for your help
