Radeon driver/SuSE 8.2 question

This is not going to be done today, because I don't have the patience right now... but...

This week I tried to install the ATI drivers off of SuSE's website. Yeah. Well. They seemed to install okay, and then, lo and behold, when I rebooted... No graphical interface at all. I tried to uninstall them, and SuSE couldn't seem to find the rpms. Errg. So I ended up, after trying to fix things and flubbing them up even more, reinstalling SuSE. Luckily it hadn't been set up too long, so there was nothing earth shatteringly important that I lost.

I hear that ATI has Linux drivers on their site. Does anyone know if these are the same as the SuSE drivers? Has anyone had success installing the SuSE drivers at all? Have people that have tried them both had more luck with one or the other?

At this time I'm happy having a functioning Linux system, and since the only thing I use the fancy graphics for are games, and I play most of my games on Windoze anyway, I guess it's not that big a deal. But I'm a little curious as to whether other people have had problems with the ATI drivers on SuSE's site.

Ati in SuSe

Hi,

I've had similar problems before, do a search in the Hardware forums for my ATI SuSE problem.

I'm using ATI's drivers now, but there is still a problem on clearing the buffer (FireGL difference?).

If you have anything plugged into the TV-out (and possibly anything else plugged into the card), try unplugging it, but I understand some newer drivers can allow you to use the tv-out.

Cheers,
xe
