Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I recently bought a computer from Wal-Mart, it is a Linare Desktop, AMD Sempron 2200, 40 GB HDD & 128 MB RAM with Linare Linux 2.0. The computer isnít detecting my monitor I have and the monitor I have is from my old Emachine 366 computer/w windows 98 build into it, and I canít find a brand name for it. Do you know what I can list the monitor it is under? Or how I can tell what kind of monitor I have?
Iím also having trouble connecting through the internet, I was trying to connect through my modem, but it also keeps giving me an error message. I was trying to connect using Juno (since I am a member), but Iím having trouble also.
Also Iím having trouble opening up a program through my floppy disk drive without it giving me a pop up saying ďOpen With optionĒ on the computer (I donít know how to go about that way). Iím also having trouble opening up a program to download through the CD-ROM drive without giving me an error message, saying itís not mounted or unmounted. Usually I don't have any problem with windows, but I am new to Linare, and never used it before. Is there anything you can help me with?
Iím thinking of buying a new monitor to try a see if thatís part of the problem, but I donít know if it is. Would I need a new monitor for the problems I am having or is "normal"?
Right now Iím using the computer where I work, since I canít get online at home.
I would appreciate if you could get back to me a.s.a.p.
