Problems recompiling kernel in SUSE

Hi everyone, i installed suse recently but, i've got a problem, my display turn of when X server starts. I've found the solution here portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2000/11/olh_ppc_apple_tft.html I ' ve try to recompile kernel but in /usr/src/ are 2 directories, one called "ATI" and other called "packages", and when i write something like make menuconfig says that the command make does not exist, i really apreciate any kind of help.

Not sure, but I don't think you need to recompile your kernel. Looks like you need to add those kernel parameters to your lilo.conf or grub.conf

Yes your'e right!!! mmm but the monitor is still dark , thank u anyway
