update modutils !
make sure the version of modutils you have installed can cope with 2.6 kernel modules.

what kernel are you planning on using ? or are you going to compile it yourself ?
if compiling yourself, read a kernel compile guide. there are some good ones on this site.

If you upgrade using RPMs, and you meet all the dependencies, then you should be fine.

If you install from source, make sure that you read the install instructions first. There's quite a lot of software that must be upgraded before you can upgrade the kernel; failing to upgrade them usually results in a very unstable system (or one that won't boot).

Also, remember to compile in (not as modules) the drivers you need to access the module files on your hard disk.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
