Trying to get my creative webcam (VF0400 Live!Cam Notebook Pro) to work on my Ubuntu 8.10. I've dual boot my Acer Aspire 5551 note with Ubuntu. I've installed Skype for Linux and the audio is working ok. However, I cannot get the video to work. When I want to test the video in Skype, the Skype program just ended.
Under Options for Skype, it can recognize my Creative Webcam (/dev/video0). Would appreciate if someone in the forum can offer some help.
Just noticed that I need to keep the Terminal open when using the webcam under Skype. Once I exit the Terminal even after I've keyed in the command : $ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype, the webcam will not work. Pls correct me if I'm mistaken. Thanks once again!
Sorry to sound ignorant, but can you go thru', step by step, on how to change the icon command from skype to
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype.
I've gone to System -> Preferences -> Sessions. Then I add Skype under Startup Program. For "Name", I just use Skype. For "Command", I put in "/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype". Is this what you're referring to? However, it did not work. Can advise again. Thanks!
oops you are using Ubuntu so may be using Gnome? not sure if gnome likes using icons? as I use KDE. I was referring to edit command for the icon for skype.
assuming you do not have icons...create a bash or sh script instead.
run "locate skype" to confirm full pathway please..in case yours differs
something like this
-----contents of /home/yourname/skyper
#!/bin/bash
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
/usr/bin/skype
