problem w/mounting cdrom in rh 7.2

i am having a problem mounting my cdrom drive. whenever i try to mount it, i get an error message even though i have a data cd in there. I am not sure what the problem actually is but its really annoying. Also I can't even play music cd's now and i dunno why they won't play. Any suggestions and comments are appreciated.

ok i found the error messages. when i try to mount the cdrom it gives me an error like this:

mount: /dev/cdrom is not a valid block device

when i tried to play a music cd i got this:
Error: Please check to make sure cdrom drive support is compiled into this kernel, and that you have permission to access the device Reason: No such device or address

hope this helps

This sometimes works. As root run depmod -ae. Then try mounting it again.
