Problem mandrake 10 modversions.h

I have a big problem :

After the installation of my HSF drivers, when I load hsfconfig I have an error : "missing file /lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/build/include/linux/modversions.h The cause of this problem is usually a missing or miscofigured kernel source tree", which also occurs when I try to install the NVIDIA drivers : "The kernel header file /lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/build/include/linux/modversions.h does not exist. The most likely reason for this is that the kernel header files in /lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/build/include have not been configured"

In fact, this modversions.h doesn't exist on my computer. I have a Mandrake 10 community with the given kernel and kernel source (2.6.3).

Please give me solutions to this problem, and please don't forget that I'm a new user of linux, so if you can find me simple and well describe solution...

Thank you !

Sorry I'm french so....

I had the same problem, it's just that your modem drivers aren't compatible with the 2.6 kernel, the problem is the same for Nvidia, the need the modvesions.h file but it had been deplaced in another directory (i don't remember the exact path) (search it with the command ' find /usr/src -name "modversions.h" ') .

A solution is to download updated drivers for your hsf modem or change your kernel!!

For Nvidia there are new drivers for the kernel 2.6.

maxmanseb,

You and I are on identical kernels and have exactly the same problem. I think our driver might be here:

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pack...em/kernel-2.6/

I can't check this out until tonight but you might be able to get a head start.

So close this thread, I managed to work out that the modversions.h was missing because I needed to go to /usr/src/linux and so a "make mrproper", then edit my Makefile to correct the kernel version. Then, a "make xconfig", load my config file from /boot, then save and quit. Finally a "make dep" to set everything right, and build the headers.

I never did this before because I thought you only do these steps to make a complete kernel. I didn't realise you perform the first few steps to get just the kernel headers set up.
