Thumbs down Problem installing Linux 17.10 to VMWare WIN 10 Virtual HD

I purchased the Linux Format Magazine with the Ubuntu 17.10 Linux DVD. I run WIN 10 latest build and VMWARE 14. However, the OS seems to have problems installing. It goes right to the end and then tells me that there is a problem with my HD. OK maybe one HD could be faulty but so farI've tried six including one brand new and still the same error.

Has anyone else encountered this problem with recent releases? 17.04 also seemed to be
very difficult to install as well. I have also noticed that a problem with the install windows where you are required to click on the Continue Button. Quite often it is not shown because the Borders around the window are too small to display the entire contents on that page. this is very annoying and has been present in just about every release now for a few years.

If it only my computer that has this problem, I would be very surprised.

Edit: OOPS I did not catch it is VMWare you are trying. Unless you want to run Ubuntu as server in a production environment VMWare is not the easiest choice. VirtualBox is better to test your Ubuntu in a Windowss environment.

This is hardly a detailed error description. What error message are you exactly getting, when, which kind of message, in which window, does it come from Windows, Virtualbox, or Ubuntu?

Did you try six hard disks? How exactly? Replaced the hard disk in your computer, reinstalled Windows, Virtualbox and then tried again?

Is there any reason to try and install from DVD instead of a downloaded ISO image? DVDs can have errors.

Usually you download a linux iso and verify it's checksum.

Usually what I remember from SpywareXP days is that you have to use special host drivers to get the host system working. As far as I have seen there are special vmware drivers in the kernel / gentoo portage tree.

I'm not fond of commercial, paid software crap. VMWARE is one of those.

You may use a live-cd like sysrescue-cd to test out linux.
Knoppix
pclinuxos

LEt's assume you have one of those newer fake laptops without optical drives, than you may use a cheap usb pen drive and try to get linux there running. usb installation is very complicated, and uefi makes things worse

you could also try using android smartphone with a certain app to bootup the linux iso on your android phone for your computer. a few isos did work here that way.

Try changing the hard disk type to IDE in vmware.
