Problem getting back to the terminal window.

Hi all,

I am very new to Linux. I was typing a command as root when I screwed up half way thru and pressed enter. Now the screen shows a prompt like this >

I have tried typing Vi :q! escape command and even shutdown down commands but nothing works. It just goes to a new line beginning with >

How do I get out of this?

Sudhir

It look like the secondary prompt, that one the shell displays when waiting for completion of a command. Have you tried to interrupt by pressing Ctrl-C?
