First of all you need a valid domain, with the proper MX records setup with DNS. Then you need to make sure that sendmail is configured properly with your domain name for your email after making sure port 25 is not blocked by either a firewall and or your own ISP connection.

Also, by default, Red Hat sets sendmail to listen only on the loopback address, not on your network connection -- you'll need to modify /etc/mail/sendmail.mc, changing the 127.0.0.1 on the DAEMON_OPTIONS line to 0.0.0.0, rebuild sendmail.cf (make sendmail.cf in /etc/mail) and restarting sendmail. Be sure you have all the patches applied for sendmail. You might want to contemplate upgrading since RH9 is out of support.
