phpBB installation

Hello,

I am trying to install the phpBB forum software and being a newbie I got lost. Can anyone please lend me there knowledge or tell me where I can find a How To or any documentation. I have been looking everywhere for it and even the all mighty google has failed me.

I have also been searching the phpBB website for a readme or something, but no luck.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, welcome to LQ!

And instead of us trying to tell you how to do something, why don't you
tell us what you did, and where it failed? Gives us a better understanding
of where you're at, and which information you really need.

Cheers,
Tink

OK...

I have downloaded the tarball image(if that is the correct way of saying it). I got Apache, MySQL and php installed. Apache is pointing to the /opt/www directory where I have placed the phpBB files.

Now here is were my problem comes in, I have got no idea where to go next. My understanding is that you need to run the install.php file. How do you do that? Do you need to point apache to that file?

http://www.phpbb.com/support/guide/#section1

does that help?

i would imagine you point your browser to the folder/file.

I found it by searching phpbb on google, found its homepage, then going to support>user guide.

obviously if you were using a search string like "1 legged midget porn" then you may not have found what you were after, otherwise...

I think you should check your apache setting first.

#Apache

in /etc/conf/httpd.conf

check these

DocumentRoot "/opt/www"

<Directory "/opt/www">

DirectoryIndex index.php

And then browse http://www.mydomain.com/phpBB2/install/install.php

check DB server up

good luck,
