peer to peer messaging is an interesting topic

I did a little search on the topic and ended up with lots of options

this seemed a bit confusing so I thought I'd come here for a little peer-to-peer advice !

so,-- the question then is -- any suggestions for this ?

Write a letter, place in envelope put an address and stamp on it, let the postal service deal with it.
Carrier pigeon may be faster in certain circumstances.
Two tin cans and string, although distance is a factor.

Process to process messaging within a server? Person to person on a lan? Server to server on a lan/wan?
