first of all would be nice to know how it was installed and where? Did you try the default password?
Exactly what did you try (when it did not work for you)?
Sometimes passwords don't work due to keyboard hardware errors, sticky keys - as in you have too much beard hair and bread crumbs (the sweet one are the worst, since they are stickier) in your keyboard. No, this isn't a joke. If you have the option, replace the keyboard and try again. If it works, you'll know it's the keyboard.

There have been a few good responses on steps you can take. Boot from a live USB and change your password. Check your keyboard layout. Type your password into your username field to verify it is what you think it is. Do these things and verify, then get back with us if there's more.
Heck, it could even be a dead keyboard key (hardware failure). Most likely, it's user error and you can resolve by changing the password.
