Partitioning gone bad-deleted /usr

I'm running Mandrake 9.2 (kde) with a 4 gigabyte partition from my XP harddrive. i had a bland 30 gig hdd that i planned to partition as a linux storage bin. Using diskdrake i created an ext 3 partition and mounted it to /usr. I later wanted to change it and mount it under /home and when i deleted it all of /usr disappeared. I no longer can open conqueror or anything that has any part in usr. Is there any way to get /usr back or do i need to reinstall?

If you have not created a partition in the place of your /usr, you have a chance. Boot from MDK installation cd and get to partitioning. Create a new partition exactly in the place you had the old one. Don't format it! Save changes and try to boot your system. If everything goes well, you should have your /usr back.

If the new partition was not formatted, you have a chance...
