Outlook and exchange server

I am trying to find a Linux alternative to MS Exchange Server. I want to be able to share outlook folders (ie public outlook folders) with other people on a LAN and I don't want to spend $1300 for MS Exchange Server 2003.

Any suggestions? I am currently trying out Red Hat 8.0. Thanks!

if I understand what you're saying, you want a linux based groupware solution that will share MS based folders (ie Outlook).

I doubt Outlook will connect to a non-MS based groupware solution (ie Exchange).

I know you can get linux clients for Exchange - I beleive there is an Exchange plugin for Evolution or something similar.

Do you have to use Outlook on the client side ?

There's not much in the way of OSS to do this but there are commercial solutions (that are cheaper than Exchange).

http://www.samsungcontact.com/en/ For instance...

http://www.ximian.com/ Has an Exchange "connector" for Linux so the Evolution client can connect to a Windows server.

I just found something on the web a little earlier today with this question... check out http://www.opengroupware.org

I think it will be a good solution over Exchange Server
