I have been using ubunut 8.4 for some time now and haven't had any major concerns, except for the fact that sometimes when I walk away from my laptop for a while and come back to use it and I have a couple of applications up on a couple of desktops, and I try to open another app (any) it will open a black window with min,max and close in the top right corner. It is like it is trying to open that application, but there is an error (?!?!?) The problem won't fix itself until I shut down the computer and restart it, but then it can happen again after it sits for a while... what could be causing this?

Also, on my desktop I went to www.starfall.com for my son and the sound wasn't working for the website, but just that one. ??? It works with other websites and other applications, but not this one? The sound works on my laptop... maybe something to do with my firefox settings? I have tried and tried to tweek these, but to no avail. Suggestions?

When you are 'away' from your laptop does it do anything like enter a screen saver or power saving mode?

This could be more of a problem with your X server. Have you tried restarting it without rebooting the machine to see what happens? (sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart or just ctrl-alt-backspace to kill it!)

starfall.com uses flash for its sound - do you have it installed?
