Nvidia problem - Last resort

I appreciate any help.

I am attempting to re-purpose a desktop for charity. I would like to re-purpose old desktops for linux gaming in hospitals and other places.

I have a Zotac Nvidia GeForce GT 610 graphics card and I am trying to make it work with a Dell Dimension E310.

I have tried Ubuntu 13.04, Mint (most recent)

The install CDs wont run while I am using the Zotac card, I have to install Os while using the on board card.

Once installed I have tried to load the Nvidia drivers. I get the error: NVIDIA API mismatch.

I have followed several posts in various forums. Can someone please guide me?

Thanks for any help!

Were you attempting to load the straight downloaded binary from Nvidia, or install the version contained in the repositories?

When attempting the ubuntu install, I tried the additional drivers but both failed. I then turned to the nvidia .run files. I have tried the .310, .313(newest), and the .304(year old since the card is so old). I then installed Linux Mint and attempted all the nvidia installs again, as well as adding the repository x-swat, a custom repos i found here http://www.noobslab.com/2012/10/inst...in-ubuntu.html

Probably nothing to do with it, but what kernels are they using? I only ask because I've had REALLY bad luck with Nvidia drivers in the 3.8 lineup after 3.8.10 kernel (haven't yet tried 3.9 kernels however).

Yes, I ran:

$ sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic is already the newest version
