nvidia driver not working

Hi all

xubuntu 12.04 64bit clean install apart from restricted extras and restricted addons.

sound working but screen tearing so installed nvidia-current from synaptic, screen still tears and now no sound at all

Installed nvidia-current-updates-dev with no difference

any ideas?

thanks

stripe

removed nvidia-current and nvidia-current-updates-dev and still no sound, (This is starting to get annoying)

Solved: I now know not to try and use linux with my nvidia card (gts450) as the drivers dont work

I don't agree that Nvidia drivers won't work with your video card. My reasoning? See this page: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-d...12-driver.html

If you already tried those drivers, try an older version if the current one doesn't work.

Typically in Ubuntu & Mint distributions, you can run the command [cmd]sudo jockey-gtk[/cmd] to install the drivers.

If you are in Debian, Fedora, Redhat, CentOS, SuSE, etc, then you can probably get away with downloading the drivers from that Nvidia link above, switching to runlevel 3, and installing the drivers. You will need to install the Linux headers for your particular kernel first.
