Not getting sound in suse 11.3!!!!


I am using suse 11.3(32bits). It was working fine but after using 5 months my tmp folder was almost full and as I have cleared my tmp folder
I am not getting sound in vlc, Mplayer, plugin, even from youtube...

Please suggest solution..........

Hello souravmondal, welcome to LQ,

could you please post the output of
Code:
lspci -k | grep -iA5 sound
You may as well (as root or with sudo) execute the alsaconf command which configures your soundcard. Also you may execute the alsamixer command (in a terminal as a normal user) and check the settings.

Being fustrated with suse linux now I have Installed Ubuntu 10.04 in my Laptop it is working fine but When I am plugging in the head-phone, sound is not coming through head-phone and the speakers(laptop) are playing sound whether head-phone is plugged in or not....

If any one have solution please provide......

in the 4th post NOW you inform us as to this being a laptop !
that should have been in the FIRST post .

did you reboot after cleaning out /tmp ?
pid files are stored there

and if you removed them with out shutting down the service .... bad news ( Ubuntu will have the same problem )

In a terminal execute the [code]alsamixer[/command]probably there are separate "buttons" for the headphone.
