Not Enough Memory Msg when install'g Mint or Deepin
Hi Y'all,
Greetings from Snowy NC.
First post with first Linux issue.
Attempting to load Linux .iso distros (both dnlds and commercial (from mags & bought sampler cd pkg online) to see which one I want to go with.
My ACER M3011 desktop athlon 64 x2 w/2GB Mem, dsk =320GB had Vista but I can't restore any longer so I'll go Linux.
After much online research dnlded & installed Zorin Lite w/o issues. However, when attempting to boot 32bit or 64 bit versions of MINT 17.1 or DEEPIN 14.2, recvd NOT ENOUGH MEMORY FOR IMAGE msg. Installed 4 more GB ( the BIOS sees it; total 6). Same NOT ENOUGH MEMORY msg. I have searched all the threads for similar issues w/o finding any. I would appreciate suggestions on where to start.
Thank you, Robert Hall
UPDATE;; After finding suggestions on other forums have tried the trick of adding the mem=1024m, and mem=1G, and mem=4G
during the boot process. Get a whole bunch further into the kernal boot now, but always hangs at the "[7.360454] random:
nonblocking pool is initialized" line.
TIA
RH

Reason: More Info:
Hi,
Thnk U for your ideas. I have played with the mem size parameters and the ramdisk size parameter; no joy so far. The memtest reports 5.87GB so have used numbers in and around that number. I am cking other distros to see how far the boot gets. Puppy and Zorin are OK. DSL will not go into a full boot but at least it doesn't hang or die.; I will report back when I have more useful info. Thanks again.

Did your desktop come with a motherboard book?
If you can't find or don't have your mobo book let me know. I'll look for the PDF and see if it's available online.
Look in the mobo book it should tell you if the RAM is expandable.
If so, you could purchase and install 1 or 2 more sticks of RAM.
You could try shrinking your Zorin partition and that will give you some free space to work with and may be enough space to dual boot with another distribution.
Hi from NC,
I want to thank everyone for all the suggestions to a solution to my "out of memory" Linux issue. Since visiting last, other computer issues have jumped up to stop my Linux effort. I'll return to the distros as soon as I can. I can tell you that Lunbunto loaded up and ran ok before I had catastrophic hardware (disk) issues.
Thanks again.
