I have a,.. "Integrated ATI Radeon HD 4250 Graphics" (No card)
It is the AMD 880G chip.
After install & update of Zorin os7 core. I have no sound.
I am using an HDMI out to my TV.
I have read the forums, But not sure what applies to my problem. ATI no longer offers a driver for Linux os that supports this on board graphics chip. ? PLEASE
Can someone point me in the right direction ?
Have you used your mixer to make sure that sound level is not set to 0? Occasionally the sound system may default to "muted" and you have to manually set it to its normal setting.
jdk
The zorin os7 core 64 bit (free version, not ultimite) had no mixer.
I have installed "PulseAudio Volume Control". It displays BOTH my onboard chip and the HDMI out to my TV.
I'm not sure of the configuration seetings. Therfore, in volume control under the "output devices" tab I tried every configuration, For BOTH the onboard chip and the HDMI. STill no sound,.. I made sure the mute was off. I also made sure the speaker icon next to the clock on the task bar under sound settings was not muted as well.

This may sound obvious but if you want your sound to go out of the HDMI you'll need to select it as the output for that device on the Configuration tab of the Pulse Audio volume control, then make sure it's not muted on the Output Devices tab then on the Playback tab ensure that any application you want to output to it has the HDMI out selected form its dropdown menu. If your set-up is anything like mine some or all of this will need to be done on every start-up unless you fiddle with Pulse Audio config files (which I never get around to doing).
GOT that done,...Thanks for being discriptive. In pulse audio under playback the "show" drop dawn menu I have "applications" selected. I do not have anything to listen to, as I only started 1 week ago with linux.
Other than the "test speaker" option in sound settings I have been tying to get sound from you tube .
Plus zorin itself makes no sounds. My MD5sum check was good at time of install.
Do I need to reboot zorin every time I configure the audio ? Or some program I missed?
I still have no sound. How hard can it be? I have no sound/vidoe card. 1 HDMI out to TV. It must be something else.
Any one have an idea PLEASE help. I hate to surrender to windows.

If you haven't opened an application with sound how do you know it's not working? If you play a video or music file it will appear in the list on the Playback tab of the Pulse Audio volume control -- then you will be able to see whether it is playing through the HDMI or not and change it if it isn't -- at which point you should hear it through your TV as long as that is set up to receive sound through the HDMI port.
are you saying that if I am playing (or streaming) a video while on the internet,.. like you tube.
That there will be no sound unless I download a video or music and play it from my file saved folder ?
Zorin itself should make a default sound when,... starting the os , or when you click to open or make an inappropriate mouse click: don't you get the famous "BONK" ? Under the speaker icon on the task bar
(right click) The test speaker option still provides no sound. I AM a total noob so please be patience with me !! May I ask ,... do you think it my be a different prob. Like do I need an AMD open source driver that supports Linux ? As I am dual booting windows and zorin os 7 core 64 bit . The original motherboard drivers where installed for windows. ???

No, I'm saying that while that video is playing you have to check the settings in Pule Audio volume control as applications only appear on the Playback tab while they are in use. Unless you're playing back sound it is difficult to check that things are set correctly in Pulse Audio volume control.
You might also want to run alsamixer and check that nothing is muted there.
As for system sounds, if it is Pulse Audio causing you not to hear anything then that's something you can work out once you've confirmed you can get some kind of sound out of your HDMI socket.
I don't have any system sounds at all because Pulse Audio being a PITA to configure. In my experience it's a hideous illogical mess of a system.
You may need to check the drivers for the sound output of your graphics chip, yes, but I am letting you know of what you can check in your volume controls because it is not obvious and often the default configuration is useless.
THANK YOU !! I see the cd playing and I made sure the HDMI was selected. BUT sad to say that after checking ALL the sound levels, nothing muted. still no sound yet. You suggested that I should download the "alsa" mixer and try that .. doing that now.
The sofware center had "GNOME" alsa mixer and I tried again . Just like earlier,.. it would not load at all. The
"Pulse audio Manager" and the Pulse audio volume control. Both SHOWED the cd playing with the HDMI ouput selected.
(mute Off) Volume up !
But only the status bar moved . NO SOUND !!
HELP !!
I will not give up ,.. if there is a way to fix this THANK YOU !!!
