No sound in ET after following a HOW-TO

Well, I've just knackered up my Linux I think. I don't know what I've done. I folloed the HOW-TO in here: HOW-TO to try and get multiple sounds from my applications/games but it didn't work. Not only that but no I can't get sound back in my game. I still have sound in FireFox, KDE, etc. but not in my game(E.T). I've tried chnaging sound systems, reinstalling linux but nothing will help. When I reinstalled however I chose to keep my home directory and to use that again when I finished so I think it might be a setting in a conf file in my home dir, but I'm very new to linux and wasn't able to find anything to do with my sound system in there.

If anyone can help I will love you forever

btw, I'm using Mepis 3.4 and if there's anything you need(conf files, etc) just post and I shall supply. Thanks,

~evo

open a terminal and as root type this:

echo “et.x86 0 0 direct” > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss

or if your on ubuntu type

sudo echo “et.x86 0 0 direct” > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss

then run the game, it should have sound, if not try it again.

Yea, I tried that, I have to do that before I get *any* sound in ET anyway. But I fixed it, I just reinstalled mepis and used a different home folder.
