no sound in cd player kscd


I get no sound from my speakers when playing cd's using this player. any ideas?

turn up the volume sliders on kmix, aumix, alsamixer............

You could also check that the right device is selected. First, look in /etc/fstab to see what your system calls the cdrom or dvd player. Then while in KsCD, go to the section to Configure KsCD...
In the section CD-ROM Device it should be labeled /dev/dvd or /dev/cdrom or whatever is in the /etc/fstab.

all the sound are turned up, I get sound when kde starts up but none from the cd player. Correct drive is selected because the cd shows as playing and the name comes up etc

KsCD requires an audio cable between your CDROM drive and the sound card.

The latest version of xmms is capable of digital audio extraction and
does not require an audio cable

ah so that's what the problem is I have xmms version 1.2.7 will that do it?
