Question No longer able to login in GUI mode

Can anyone tell me why I'm all of a sudden unable to log in to linux from the GUI? As soon as I get to the GUI prompt it blinks and sends me to the command line.
This is linux server ver7.3.
Any help is appreciated.

What does your /etc/inittab look like?

Make sure the first line is id5:initdefault:. Sometimes 4 in other distros.

it varies by distros 3, 4, 5, ect. you really should look it up before you change it, and make sure it's for red hat.

found a fix for it. turns out grub had crashed, so I had to do a startx to get into the system. still don't know why I can no longer log in thru grub, seems like I can only log in from the prompt.
