Can you please provide us more details ?
You have not specified which distro, what internet connection? what ip? etc etc.....

thanks for your reply nilesh,

fact is I know hardly anything about computers, my ex flatmate set this one up, all he said was, just plug it in and it works (internet), but it doesn't. So its a motorola modem, the program is kde, I went through the setting, it says connect directly to internet, I tried the ip adress, makes no difference, probably need someone to come in and fix it, but again thanks very much for your reply.

By distro you need to reply Ubuntu,Open Suse,Debian,Mepis,etc....

If you don't know what distribution, open a terminal and type

lsb_release -a

this should give you system information. In order to receive a complete and correct answer, you need to supply more information.
