newbie / wifi usb adapter issues

Hello LQ members. I am new to linux (DSL) and I'm having a ton of issues (it doesnt help that I'm not really hardware or software savi). I came across the Raspberry Pi and now I am determined to learn how to program so I can build some of my ideas.
My first question is how do I connect to the internet via wifi usb adapter? The adapter came with a mini cd and I cannot load the driver. I dont even know what the name of the adapter is.
Please remember that I dont know my way around when responding. Thank you all!

Hi,

Welcome to LQ....!!!!

Did you Google this, as I can see many blogs/sites suggesting couple od ideas. Moreover, provide info like :
a) what wifi USB adapter you have (like TL-WN8200ND...etc)
b) what is the purpose of this adapter (like improving signal strength,...etc)
c) how does your router connecting to this adapter
d) any other component involved (like High Gain ANtenna,....etc)

Anyways, pls refer this youtube vedio and a reference blog link to configuring wifi USB adapter, as these seems helpful :

After searching through various sites I realized that I need to trade this adapter in for one that is commonly used with Linux. I've spent way too much time trying to make this work.

Thank your for your timely response my friend!

Welcome!

If you are new to Linux, you should know that DSL (Darn Small Linux) is a very unusual distribution ("distro"). DSL is very old and bare-bones. It does not have tools for beginners to easily configure common wifi hardware.

Is there a reason why you have decided not to start your Linux journey with an easy-to-use general-purpose distribution such as Mint, Ubuntu, etc.?
