Newbie: Needs help installing software... -*EDIT*-

I am a completely linux newbie. (I don't know how to make a folder yet ;p)

I have several questions here if you got time.

1. I am looking to install a bit torrent type of thing for mandrake 9.2 - What would be the best site and *super simple* 1-2-3 instructions for installing it.

2. I have some information on a USB hard drive that I would like to get on this computer, but I don't know how to go about doing that. Someone told me I need to mount it - how do i even go about doing that?

--- keep in mind, i have yet to try using my terminal - so as i said, simple instructions.

3. Is there a thing in linux like there is a ctr-alt-del in windows? My gaim freezes sometimes.

4. This isn't exactly only linux related, but can you get up a hotmail account to use on "evolution" if so - what are the settings i use - host, and such.

More later - thanks in advance.

*EDIT* New question - How would I go about giving all permissions out? I think this could solve some problems. :P

I'll try the ones I think I know.
3. Is there a thing in linux like there is a ctr-alt-del in windows? My gaim freezes sometimes.
Try "killall gaim" (no quotes) in a terminal if that is the only thing freezing.
If you start it in a terminal with "gaim" you will see any error messages and may be able to troubleshoot.

Oh oh, that's only one.

Lesson 2.
Type "man killall" in your terminal.

#1, check here
http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-lin-soft-en/

#2, Mandrake uses supermount, I think it should be as simple as plug it in, and an icon will show up on your desktop.

#3, start, run command, enter 'xkill' without the quotes. The cursor changes to a bullseye. Right click the mouse to cancel.\

#4, Can you just go to the web site to read your mail. You may want to think about a real email address with a real mail server. I have no end of trouble emailing my hotmail friends, and have about 1/2 of them converted to real email. Imagine, return receipts.

Did you go throught he Mandrake introduction help guides, learning your desktop, how you burn CDs, creating directories, etc?

#1... I went to that site and it has winlin-engine-julienne.zip file, and i assumed thats the one to download... now what? :P I didn't see a instruction file.

#2... I have it plugged in and all, but nothing appeared, I was waiting for that to happen, but it didn't. **EDIT** Maybe theres a supermount setting somewhere that i don't have turned on???

#4... Do you have one to suggest? I just like using alertshotmail because it alerts me on gaim when i get mail, but im open to suggestions.

#1. Updated link. The zip file is so that you can download the web page locally since it is very large. Hmm, I sent him an email. the index doesn't load automatically.
http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-l...en/table.shtml

That will take you to my favorite one stop shopping place.

#2. If you open the control center or hardware browser, can you see it. I don't have a USB drive, and don't use Mandrake, so can't be specific.

#4. That depends on who your ISP is. You would just call them and ask them for an email address, what the POP server name is, what the SMTP server name is, etc. I don't know what alertshotmail is, but that gaim notification sounds cool.
