Newbie looking for help with code and lxml problems

Hello

This is my first ever post on LinuxQuestions!

I have been reading the following post: https://chrisramsay.co.uk/posts/2014...run-to-strava/

and also following the instructions on https://github.com/chrisramsay/mapmyrun2gpx

I would like to move my data from mapmyrun to strava. I don't know much about Linux. I am a Mac OSX user so have installed VirtualBox and installed both Ubuntu and Debian but have not had success running the code.

I have been searching online working out how to get root access to install packages and have installed apt-get install libxml2-dev libxslt-dev python-dev

The instructions say to run $ pip install -r requirements.txt but when I do the end chunk is highlighted red and I get an error.

Here is my error:

mapmyrun2gpx-master# pip install -r requirements.txt
Collecting lxml==3.4.0 (from -r requirements.txt (line 1))
Using cached lxml-3.4.0.tar.gz

I have tried to run the code but I just get the message Error! four times when it should be displaying Done!

If anybody could help or even test it to see if it actually works that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Im running
VirtualBox Version 5.2.0
Debian 9.2.1 amd64
Ubuntu 17.10 amd64

It looks like the requirements.txt file is specifying outdated packages that are not compatible with you version of Linux. For instance, it replaced lxml 3.7 with lxml 3.4, which may not be compatible with other packages on your system.

I would email the author of the the software, and explain the trouble you're having.

Thanks. So that means I shouldn't have to worry about the requirements as lxml is already installed. The code should work when I run it but Im just getting errors. I will have to go back to the author and see if they will respond to me.

You could read requirements.txt and see what's in it.

The developer has got back to me and the url http://www.mapmyrun.com/vxproxy/v7.0/workout/{0}/? is not working. Either the response is empty or it returns a 404.

So will have to wait to see if the developer can come up with a solution sometime in the future
