New to linux

I finally made the switch to linux, i donwloaded "mandrake 10 community"

After that impretty much stuck.

i need these things:

Aim client
MP3/ACC player (itunes copy)
Ipod Connector
P2P Client (music)

I'm running KDE 3.2

Now the other problem is, everytime i think i know how to install stuff.

but im not sure becasue it NEVER works.

so you unzip/install the RPM.

then you config it, but get to its dir, then ./configure.

now everytime i run the ./configure, i get this error.

configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details

i also have noticed that my 9600pro is not working really, the hardware acceration isnt working at all. tuxracer is very slow.

i have no idea what that means. any help please? im very lost.

Kopete, already installed, does AIM. You can installin GAIM to try it, it does all the major protocols. Under System-->Configuration-->Install software
MP3-Noatun or XMMS, already installed. You won't find an ACC player.
lpod connector, don't know what that is
P2P, don't know, never used any. Probably one installed, someone else jump in.

You might want to go through the Help docs you have. Mandrake comes with, literally, thousands of applications already. Install is trivial, if you learn how to use RPMDrake, etc. Download Mandrake RPMs, don't try compiling till you get your feel wet.

These are for 9.2, but most, if not all, still applies.

Basically, this is telling you that you have a minimal installation, with C language compiler only. Go back to the installation CD's, and look for the rest, and install them. They may be listed as g++, c++, cpp, cxx (for c++ language compiler; fCC for fortran, etc. This is telling you that you haven't installed any language compiler other than C. I don't know what 'Drake uses for system maintenance, so I can't help you there.
