New install FC5 can't boot.

I just installed FC5 on the first partition of my first hard drive. I did not choose to install grub during the install because I didn't want it to mess anything up and it's already installed and still boots Slackware 10.2 on my second hard drive.

I thought that it would be easy enough to boot from the command line!

Here are the commands I passed to grub:
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.2054-FC5 root=/dev/hda1 ro
boot

When I enter the 'boot' command the pc reboots!
Would one of you Guru's please point out what I have done wrong.

Should I just reinstall grub to see if it picks up my new Linux install?

I finally have it working and it only took me 6 hours.

Here is a copy of my menu.lst hopefully to help others.

I have installed FC5 several times, but when I reboot I get the grub command line with no boot options. At that point I am clueless, and until I can run Linux I can't get to the grub.conf file to fix things. I am using a dvd from the .iso download, and have tried every option I can think of during the "interview" including the defaults amd choosing an additional boot from the hard drive boot sector. All I get is grup and a prompt. Any suggestions would be most welcome. thanks.

use your rescue cd to boot from and you will have full access to grub.conf.
