Need to boot kernel in virtual machine

hey, i am completely new to this linux. I have a question about the kernel. I have compiled a kernel and i got the bzimage of the kernel. Now i want to load the kernel in a virtualized environment (for now i am using QEMU). I don't know how to do that. I just don't want to install the complete os and then install my kernel image on to that and then boot with my kernel. What i want is i want to run the bare kernel what i have.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

If you really want to do this, read the QEMU manual for setting up the environment, or just use the gui. Then go read Linux From Scratch as that'll walk you through starting with bare bones.

Thanks for the reply. But I just wanted to know how to invoke my kernel. As far as i know, when the system is powered on, there is something called as BIOS which does the POST operation, then comes the bootloader, which deos the rest of the job. If i am wrong please correct me.

I wanted to write a bootloader in which i can specify my kernel as the kernel to be loaded. Basically something like a embeded device in which my customized kernel is running.
