Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

What do mean by "how do I correct Ubuntu"?
Please elaborate on what you are trying to accomplish? Is this homework?

You'll get this message in Ubuntu if you forget to specify a command and just give a file name including its path:
Code:
$ /etc/passwd
bash: /etc/passwd: Permission denied
The message means that file isn't executable.
