My computer is part of a network, and I'm connected through the phone line by a 2wire PC Port USB adapter. I'm new to this sort of thing, but I installed Mandrake 10.1, and it doesn't recognize the connection. I tried using the installation CD (2wire HomePortal setup wizard), but I couldn't even find away to open what was on the CD. Anyone able to help me? Please and thank you!
2Wire portal works with my computer. Although I'm not using the USB but Ethernet.

Explain in detail what do you mean by that.

It is because that CD is meant for windows and not for linux. Moreover, you don't need to setup anything...2Wire homeportal works with Linux and it has a web based interface so no need of any software installation.
if there is no need for software installation, why do I keep receiving an error such as "connection was refused when attempting to connect," despite me not having the firewall enabled? Also, when I try to load a website such as google, I cannot because I'm not connected to the internet

What steps did you take if any...what distro are you using. Are you using usb or ethernet connection? Please provide details.
I'm currently using Black Orion, and I'm using a USB connection. I tweaked a little with enabling and disabling IPv6 to see if that would have any effect but it did not. So currently, I am clueless as to how to fix this problem. The internet browser which I use is mozilla firefox, the most recent version. I do not have a firewall enabled.
