mysql or exim4??????

I have been using SimplyMEPIS (debian-based).
What on earth is exim4, why is it running and WHY did the kpackage tool install it for me when I asked it to install MySQL. Is this a bug in the apt-get system or kpackage? Do I need exim4 to be running? Can I apt-get remove it? Would it be causing a lot of disk accesses?

Thanks.

Take care

any reason you couldn't have just looked at the package description for exim or gone to exim.org? exim is an MTA, like sendmail or postfix. maybe debian decided their default config would use exim4 as their default mta, and mysql wants an mta...
