mysql

I'm trying to get mysql to work, but if I type "mysql" I just get an error it can't connect to the server through socket... something. Seems to be a typical error since I saw a few posts here showing it.

How do I get mysql to work? I don't think there's phpmyadmin installed, do I need it in order for it to work?

do you have a mysql user set up, or a mysql administrator account? You'll need these to log into mysql, but they are separate from you normal Linux user account.

OK this is simply becuase you do not have your mySQL server running

the command mysql connects to your sql server and allows you is issue SQL commands such as SELECT, DELETE, CREATE etc.

click on the "redhat" -- > "system settings" --> "server settings" --> "services"

Each ticked item are the ones that are currently running.

the "mysqld" (my sql daemon) check box is probably not checked. click it at it will automatically start on system startup so you wont have to do this again. then click on "start" button.
