Multimedia Backend?


Hi Lq
Will you Pls help me in knowing what is multimedia backend ? I'm trying to expertise myself in Qt which consist of "Phonon::backendCapability" and it contains the function that describe multimedia backend ,that I do not know.Could you pls help me to know ,what is this,multimedia backend ?

multimedia back ends are the software that allows you to play media.Examples are libxine,mplayer,gstreamer,ffmpeg...front ends would be programs that have a GUI to the backend..Like Totem,Smplayer,kaffeine,Gxine,XineUI,etc..
