Moving from Outlook to Evolution
Hi,
In my quest to move from windows to linux, I would like to use the Evolution email client (PIM really) and I would like to import all my email from Outlook. I have the .pst files from outlook - is this possible?
Using Mandrake 8.1 with Evolution beta3. Outlook is version 2000.
I don't see a way of importing directly from your Outlook.pst file into Evolution. However, you can export from Outlook in a variety of ways - see the file/export menu - and then import what you want into Evo.
The only way to do this for the moment is running your own imap webserver on your network and putting the outlook mail on it. Later you can download them with evolution. Did this with almost 100mb of email and worked fine.

Could you ellaborate a little. What's an IMAMP webserver? Does this require exporting into the IMPA webserver? Will all my contacts and calendar get exported too?

Thanks.
It's a mail server. But not with the pop3 protocol, it uses imap instead. With pop3 you download the mails from the server and store them on your pc. With imap the mails are stored on the server so that they can be read from everywhere in the world using any program. If you can put your outlook messages on a server and then download them back in evolution you can emulate an import.
