The program is written in C and is made for the Linux operating system, (using the video4linux interface). Motion is a command line based tool whose output can be either jpeg, ppm fies or mpeg video sequences. Motion is strictly command line driven and can run as a daemon with a rather small footprint and do.

All the information is available from that site.

However, if you want to change any settings then look for a file called motion-dist.conf usually found in /usr/local/etc/

Copy it to a file called motion.conf in the same directory and edit it as you require.

I opened /etc/motion/motion.conf
I run it from terminal because it couldn't be opened otherwise.
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/motion/motion.conf
I want to change the directory of captured jpg images
Shall I change some-thing here?
Quote:
# File path for snapshots (jpeg or ppm) relative to target_dir
# Default: %v-%Y%m%d%H%M%S-snapshot
# Default value is equivalent to legacy oldlayout option
# For Motion 3.0 compatible mode choose: %Y/%m/%d/%H/%M/%S-snapshot
# File extension .jpg or .ppm is automatically added so do not include this.
# Note: A symbolic link called lastsnap.jpg created in the target_dir will always
# point to the latest snapshot, unless snapshot_filename is exactly 'lastsnap'
snapshot_filename %v-%Y%m%d%H%M%S-snapshot

# File path for motion triggered images (jpeg or ppm) relative to target_dir
# Default: %v-%Y%m%d%H%M%S-%q
# Default value is equivalent to legacy oldlayout option
# For Motion 3.0 compatible mode choose: %Y/%m/%d/%H/%M/%S-%q
# File extension .jpg or .ppm is automatically added so do not include this
# Set to 'preview' together with best-preview feature enables special naming
# convention for preview shots. See motion guide for details
jpeg_filename %v-%Y%m%d%H%M%S-%q
or what shall I change?

Just read the whole file. It is obvious what parts need changing.
