Missing Menu and task bar in Mint.

I am in the process of learning Mint, but need help with a missing Menu and task bar. I have obviously deleted something, but have no idea what.
Terminal is a problem, as it does not appear correctly but enlarged and incomplete.
I do have a dock, with a number of icons and an application icon.

Hi,

You marked this as SOLVED....

Could you tell us what you did to solve the problem? It could be of use for others that come to LQ to look for the same problem.

Sure, but I didn't solve it, took advice from a couple of posts on the Mint forum. Desperate times leads to desperate measures, when things don't work.
The two posts gave me this!
Habitiual says.....
"Logoff the desktop and at the GUI login prompt do a Ctrl+Alt+F1 and login there.
then...
CODE: SELECT ALL
mv ~/.gconf/apps/panel ~/.gconf/apps/panel.org
mv ~/.config ~/.config.org
exit
Then Ctrl+Alt+F7 should put you back at the GUI login, (Or Ctrl_+ Right Arrow 6 times)
NOTE: This will set your panels to default."
Viking777 says.....
"Have you just tried running
CODE: SELECT ALL
gnome-panel
In a terminal or a run dialog?

Having tried both, I used "apt-get install gnome panel" and it came back, so at some point I must have deleted it but when I don't know.
Thanks to all.
