Whenever you ask a question help us help you by telling us what distro, arch, and version you are running (Centos 5.5 64bit). In the case of RH you have to specifiy whether you are using RH(which is very, very, old and has not been supported since 2003) or RHEL(Red Hat Enterprise Linux)(versions 4.X and greater are currently supported).

Depending on what you are running you will have a lot of choices. VLC would be one of the better ones. Post back what you are running so we can figure out how to best help you.

Like lazlow said, you should tell us what specific OS you're running. I would recommend either VLC, Banshee, or SMPlayer.

the curent is RHEL 6.0
and it is NOT FREE ,nor is the current 5 series (RHEL5.6)
so use the PAID FOR support you DID BUY !!!
http://www.redhat.com/support/
you will need the username and password you set up when you bought RHEL

if you are not paying for RHEL then do not use it !!!
install CentOS 5.5

the best supported for 5.6 is "mplayer " and the gnome gui front end -" gnome-mplayer "
it is in third party repos
and you NEED a paid for license to install software

not sure why someone would run a media player on rhel but i would assume the following would work:
Code:
yum install vlc mplayer xine
^ if john vv's presumption is correct then run fedora-live-usb (which is essentially the free bleeding edge stable experimental version of red hat enterprise linux).
the above yum commands would work after you install the rpmfusion.com repos.
