Ok, I had mandrake 9.1 running and eventually removed it b/c of issues with the Radeon 9500 and nforce2 chipset (couldn't get the gl working). But it did work and I dual booted with WinXP. I thought I would be smart and buy a Nvidia card to avoid the probs with the Radeon and the Nvidia chipset, but Mandrake 9.1 wouldn't load the graphical interface after install and I didn't have enough time to toy around at the time.
SO now Mandrake 9.2 is out and I thought I would try to use it with the board and the Geforce FX5600 256meg (ultra) [MSI]. Again, the install goes fine, but once I get to Lilo and try to boot linux it just sits there. I have tried all the linux boot option and they just say bios check, uncompressing kernel or booting kernel and then it sits there and does nothing.
My full system config
Asus A7N8X Deluxe (Nforce2 chipset rev2)
2 pins of 512meg Samsung DDR400 (dual channel setup on the board)
On-board audio (which is picked up by the install properly)
LG Cdrom (yes I already fixed the firmware)
Sony CDRW
Maxtor 40 gig
Western Digital 40 gig
MSI Geforce FX 5600 256meg DDR (ultra)
Logitech Wireless mouse + keyboard
I must first say I am fairly new, but picking up fast. I have GeForce 4 and I had to install my drivers to us my card properly. ALthough mine didn't lock up. Trying looking on nvidia's website for the drivers
If your looking to get a text editor on the command line as you probably know you can type in "vim <filename>" I have Mandrake 9.2 so you should have vim installed like me. If you maybe didn't know about vim, you can type in "vimtutor" and it will provide you with instructions.
To install the NVIDIA drivers your gonna need to carefully read the directions.
